Check Your Spices
Many people do not pay attention to the dates on their spice jars. If you have been cooking for a while you may have accumulated a number of spices that you use that are too old and out of date. Spices do not keep forever. They lose their potency with age and should be tossed out and replaced if you have had them for too long. Some, like paprika, need to be kept in the refrigerator.

Contributor's Note
I just looked in my cupboard and found that I had several spices that are a year old and one that was 5 years old. Some spice containers do not have dates. It is a good idea to mark the date of purchase if you can remember to do so.
