Farewell Alban Berg Quartet
The University of Chicago Presents annual chamber music series had the honor, on the evening of February 29, 2008, of hearing for the last time in the United States, the Alban Berg Quartet. This quartet has been performing together for more than thirty years and they have decided to say farewell to the United States at this concert. They have their own concert series in Vienna and they probably will continue to give concerts in Austria. They performed the Berg Lyric Suite. It is composed in a form known as 12 tone music written in 12 note sequences. I know about this kind of music because Phil Richman studied it with Ernst Krenek in 1948 at the Chicago Musical College. |
