Feeling Old

Most of the time I feel like a young person. In my mind I am no different now than I was when I was in my 40’s or 50’s. My mental image of myself is of a young woman. I am not as physically strong now as I was then. In my younger days I could lift 20 pound rollers and spend the day printing an edition of mono prints, each of them different from the other. I could spend the whole day in my studio working on a 6’ painting and moving it from place to place.

Now I can hardly lift a canvas that is 32” square. Not very large by my previous standards. In fact, my interest in painting on a large scale has been diminished by my inability to handle the materials. No matter. It is perfectly fine for me to paint on paper or smaller canvases and still achieve the kind of images I am interested in.

It is only when I see my reflection in a mirror that I wonder “who is that old lady?“ When people ask me how old I am I am evasive because I don’t want to mention the number.

I believe I am lucky. I am in good health because I have always been interested in good nutrition and I’m careful about eating all the “right” foods, especially chocolate. I don’t smoke and I drink in moderation, usually wine. Best of all, I suppose I have the “right” genes as both my parents lived to be very old. I work hard on my paintings. I teach other people how to use their Macs. I put up web sites for other artists and not for profit organizations, I baby sit my youngest granddaughter – I have seven grandchildren from 21 to 7, and I work out at a fitness center.

I always eat a healthy breakfast and lunch and I cook meals for myself every day.

It wasn’t until joined Digg that I had the shock of confronting my true age. After completing the registration I was directed to a screen told the tale.
